Intro to Project

 

Welcome !

We are Abigail, Gwen, Darla, and Kyi presenting a project based on the community and food environment/food insecurity of East Harlem. 

In our midterm we focused on the question, how does East Harlem’s access to food reflect on the health of this community? Since many people face issues regarding their diet such as diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. However, oftentimes this is a result of the lack of access to a healthy diet and/or food education.

Therefore, our group thought it would be important to address and observe the food environment of this neighborhood as it affects many individuals in Harlem and even other communities. We are now expanding on this issue by mapping out all of the food pantries and community resources such as soup kitchens available in this neighborhood.
