Picasso painted this as a reaction to the Nazi bombings on the town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. This became one of Picasso&#8217;s most famous and influential works, even becoming one of the most famous anti-war art pieces in history. The lack of color and chaotic arrangement of the piece is meant to show the brutal reality of war.
