In the past few weeks of February, events have included a performance of \u201cJames Baldwin: Down from the Mountaintop,\u201d lectures on the lives of Malcolm X and Bob Marley, and showings of <i>Good Hair<\/i>, <i>Glory Road<\/i> and <i>To Sir With Love<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>On February 21st, <i>Beasts of the Southern Wild<\/i>, a current Oscar nominee for Best Picture, will screen at CCNY. Black History Month will close on the 28th with a semi-formal gala, which will include dinner and dancing. A performance by Blue Unity Orchestra and the CCNY Gospel Choir, is scheduled for that evening as well.<\/p>\n<p>City College will also celebrate Women\u2019s History Month in March, and Asian Awareness Month in April.<\/p>\n<p><b>On Stage<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The City College Theater department has four upcoming productions, as well as a play festival. Two of the productions are plays: <i>The Sweetest Swing in Baseball<\/i>(February 21st-23rd) and <i>The Clean House<\/i> (April 11th-14th). The third is the musical <i>Promenade <\/i>(March 14th and 15th). The department has also assembled a collection of three plays from Egypt &#8212; <i>Strangers Don\u2019t Drink Coffee<\/i>, <i>Night Traveler<\/i>, and <i>The Comedy of Oedipus<\/i> (May 2nd to 4th).<\/p>\n<p>The final theater event of the season is the Annual One-Act Play Festival (May 9th to 11th). All one-acts will be directed by City College students.<\/p>\n<p><b>City on City<\/b><\/p>\n<p>City College will also present a lecture series entitled \u201cCity on City: New York.\u201d The series will feature four CUNY professors discussing various topics related to New York City.<\/p>\n<p>On February 25th, Diana Wall, an archeologist and Professor of Anthropology at City, will discuss her work in Seneca Village. \u00a0Carla Cappetti, professor of English at City, will present \u201cThe Wilderness in the Metropolis: From Manhattan to Galapagos in Herman Melville\u201d on March 11th. On April 22nd, William Solecki, the Director of CUNY Institute for Sustainable Cities and Professor of Geography at Hunter, will speak on climate change in city. The last lecturer of the series, City College Architecture Professor Hillary Brown, will discuss \u201cGreening the NYC Public Realm\u201d on May 6th.<\/p>\n<p><b>Lavender Fever <\/b><\/p>\n<p>Lavender Week, City College\u2019s annual five-day spirit palooza, is set for the week of April 29th.
