{"id":4415,"date":"2013-11-06T19:32:40","date_gmt":"2013-11-06T23:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu\/messenger\/?p=4415"},"modified":"2013-11-06T19:32:40","modified_gmt":"2013-11-06T23:32:40","slug":"mauraders-go-for-the-golden-snitch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/openlab.macaulay.cuny.edu\/messenger\/2013\/11\/06\/mauraders-go-for-the-golden-snitch\/","title":{"rendered":"Mauraders Go for the Gold(en Snitch)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Quidditch season started with a bang as the Macaulay Marauders took home a 4-1 record in the first official tournament on October 20.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the team performed well in our first official tournament,\u201d said Team Captain Sheneque Tissera. \u201cWhile we made a few mistakes, we were able to learn quickly and prove that we can compete at a high level.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4416\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4416\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu\/messenger\/files\/2013\/11\/quidditch-bad-apple-pinto.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4416 \" alt=\"Freshman Chaser Christopher Pinto flies for a goal.\" src=\"http:\/\/eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu\/messenger\/files\/2013\/11\/quidditch-bad-apple-pinto-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4416\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Freshman Chaser Christopher Pinto flies in for a goal.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In Quidditch, there are seven players on the field per team at one time. A keeper who defends the hoops, two beaters who throw bludgers to temporarily remove members of the other team from play, three chasers who throw the quaffle into their opponent\u2019s hoops for points, and a seeker who catches the snitch. Once the snitch is caught, the game is over, and the team who caught the snitch earns thirty points to their final score.<\/p>\n<p>The first game of the tournament against the NYDC team ended in the one and only loss for the Marauders, with a score of 110 to 30 after the snitch was caught.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe tournament was filled with great competition, especially NYDC\u2019s team,\u201d said freshman Beater Steven Ficurilli. \u201cThose guys were pretty amazing, but that\u2019s just going to make us work harder to beat them later in the season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The next two matches against the Horntailed Horcruxes and Rutgers ended in Macaulay wins of 110 to 0 and 50 to 20, respectively. \u00a0Both also ended with an impressive snitch grab from freshman seeker Abhishek Samdaria.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4417\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4417\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu\/messenger\/files\/2013\/11\/Jenna-Jankowski-beat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4417 \" alt=\"Senior Beater Jenna Jankowski intimidates the opponents. \" src=\"http:\/\/eportfolios.macaulay.cuny.edu\/messenger\/files\/2013\/11\/Jenna-Jankowski-beat-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Senior Beater Jenna Jankowski intimidates the opponents.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMacaulay has historically had the best seekers in New York and the Northeast in general,\u201d said Tissera. \u201cEvery year we&#8217;ve made great additions at seeker, and this year we proved once again that we have the best seeker core in the Northeast.
