“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” brought in a record-breaking $215 million at the Box Office during its premiere weekend showing in the United States.<\/p>\n

Episode Seven of the long-reigning Star Wars series very well fulfilled the $100-million-dollar expectation set by the Disney-Lucasfilm company days before release. The record sales outnumbered any other film-opening that weekend, and toppled “Jurassic World” which stood with the highest grossing weekend premiere in June.<\/p>\n

The successful film debuted in approximately 4,134 North American locations. The franchise set a record by selling more than $100 million worth of advance tickets domestically, beginning on Tuesday and snowballing through Sunday.<\/p>\n

The first showings of the seventh Star Wars movie generated 47% of its U.S. preview grosses from 3D screenings, including $5.7 millions from 391 Imax screens – nearly doubling the previous record. The Thursday night previews forecasted great success for the movie.<\/p>\n

According to the Disney company, Star Wars has earned the notion of highest grossing movie on open-ending day since the $43.5 million earning by “Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2” four years ago.<\/p>\n

The highly anticipated film, directed by J.J. Abrams welcomes back Harrison Ford as Hans Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. New cast members to the film who made their debut include: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o and Domhnall Gleeson.<\/p>\n

Internationally, the Disney film has earned roughly $250 million worldwide since its debut. Before coming to the United States, “Star Wars” debuted in 44 overseas markets including, but not limited to: the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany.<\/p>\n

As of now, the movie has received favorable reviews from critics, and earned a place in the “Top 20 Films of All-Time” according to IMDB (Rating of 8.9).<\/p>\n

Within the weeks to come, Star Wars is set to continue breaking records throughout the world, in every galaxy across the universe.<\/p>\n
