Experiential learning is at the center of Macaulay’s signature Common Events, where students from across all eight campuses come together to explore science, technology, the arts, and more. The TLC plays an integral role in designing and executing each of these events, integrating innovative pedagogy and technology to provide students with a uniquely Macaulay experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Night at the Museum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Macaulay\u2019s Night at the Museum is the opening event of Macaulay\u2019s Arts in New York honors seminar that welcomes incoming students for a special encounter with art and conversation. At Night at the Museum, no other guests, except for Macaulay students, will have access to the museum\u2019s galleries and collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

STEAM Festival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Seminars 1 and 3 culminate with our interdisciplinary STEAM Festival, where the arts and sciences are put in conversation at the Macaulay Building. Seminar 1 students share their arts-based projects, Seminar 3 students present their research posters, and everyone discovers unexpected connections (and forges a memento in our Maker Space).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SPACE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At SPACE (Society, People, Architecture, Culture, and Environment), TLCs lead bespoke workshops on social science research methods and web development skills that students will use in developing their public-facing Seminar 2 research projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BioBlitz<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a 24-hour marathon research session, teams of students work with world-renowned scientists to tally plants and animals. Their aim: to thoroughly catalog the biodiversity of a selected NYC park or ecosystem. The TLC helps students use crowdsource technology to record and share their data, and then analyze and present their findings in Seminar 3 and at STEAM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After spending all semester preparing their proposals for the future of New York city, Seminar 4 student groups share their projects in an academic conference setting at the Macaulay Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
