Rose Valley Cakes is a family-owned and operated vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, sugar-free bakery that serves customers from and beyond Richmond Hill and Glen Oaks, their two locations. Their menu “features a diverse selection of vegan food classics and globally inspired dishes, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences.”1 As one of the only vegan bakeries in the Queens-Long Island region, Rose Valley Cakes offers an accessible, inclusive, and personalized experience for anyone with unique dietary needs or desires.

The owner of Rose Valley Cakes, Kamla, crafts her menu in a way that represents the melting pot of New York City and makes her customers feel at home.2 For example, she draws inspiration from South Asian spices to craft her Chai Cookies and fills her Jamaican-Style Patty with flavors from the Caribbean. By evoking a sense of nostalgia through her authentic, diverse, culturally-inspired delights, she hopes that every customer “feel[s] included when they come into the bakery.”3

An important quality that Rose Valley Cakes never fails to maintain within its goods is authenticity. Kamla and her team make a conscious effort to produce “food that is a reflection of them” and “to make it as close to what they know is authentic, [rather] than just trying to make it appeal to the general audience.”4 Every product is handmade with intention and a story behind it, making it special to both the chef and the customers.

When asked to describe what “authentic food” really means, Kamla’s daughter, Kavita, provided the perfect response: “If it’s authentic to you, then it is authentic.”5 Depending on where someone is from and the variations of cooking they grew up with, truly “authentic” food will differ from person to person.6 The only thing that matters is whether it carries a sense of that deep, personal connection. And, at Rose Valley Cakes, you are bound to find this resonance in one treat or another.
