During the bustling hours of 8 am to 10 pm, Don Juan provides the neighborhood with just about everything: scratcher card lottery tickets to house supplies. The bodega offers the typical Goya products, but also sells everything from Italian snacks like Quadratini to fresh produce, to beer, toilet paper, and baby wipes.

From the outside, the windows offer a menu of the variety of foods Don Juan has to offer. There are images of tostones, soups, and different rice plates placed atop an image of the New York City skyline on the outside window. A hot food bar can be found inside where you can be served a plate of food by someone on the other side of the bar, at an affordable price. This bodega offers catering services for their hot food too.

Being a family-owned business, this place offers not only a quick meal but also a community. Regulars walk-in for their usual purchases, greeting the workers there with familiarity. With bachata music blasting from their speakers, the environment Don Juan’s creates is a welcoming and cheerful one. Consumers praise it for the life it brings to the bodega despite its small size.

110 Forsyth St # C, New York, NY, 10002

By Emily Dutan-Parra
Don Juan’s, a bodega on the Lower East Side, has maintained its culture since its opening in 1997 through its foods, products, and the connections it provides to locals.
Campus: John Jay College
Professor: Dr. Renee Romano
Location: 110 Forsyth St # C, New York, NY, 10002
References: N/A

A short walk from the Grand Street train station, Don Juan Grocery and Deli sits at the corner of Forsyth and Broome Street, shining its bright LED lined windows.
