An investigation by students Linda Irrizarry, Saam Ahmed, Anaya Williams, and Gwendolyn Posner into whether there is a correlation between pm2.5 particles and rainfall. In the past year both the forest fires in Canada and a period of increased rainfall led our group to start looking into both air pollution and precipitation. Upon some research we found that clouds form around condensation particle nuclei. Our investigation reflects an interest to investigate whether air pollution particles cause more clouds to form by serving as condensation nuclei leading to increased rainfall. Data collected from local databases on both rainfall and pm2.5 values in the past year suggest that there is a possible correlation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This past year the forest fires in Canada and the extreme rain in September got us all thinking about air pollution and rainfall. Particles in the air form nuclei for clouds to condense around.
