By comparing quieter, restricted habitats like the salt marshes and Bird Island to highly trafficked walkways and lawns, we investigated whether there were striking ecological differences. Through our research, we learned that accessible areas often contain more disturbance, so they would contain more tolerant or intentionally planted species, while isolated spaces better support native plants and natural growth patterns. We want people to take away a deeper appreciation for how urban design and foot traffic influence which species thrive. Even within a single park, small differences in access can create entirely different ecological worlds.

View Project

Group Members: Syeda Rahman, Alishya Loyd, Reem Hamdan Our project focuses on how human accessibility shapes plant biodiversity within Brooklyn Bridge Park.
