I am honestly a pretty simple person, so I created my mask without too much clutter. I painted the mask a teal color because I feel like I am constantly surrounded by that color. My jewelry, including my necklaces and rings, often features the color teal. On the forehead I put my favorite Bible verse which says, \u201cFor we walk by Faith not by sight.\u201d I really enjoy this verse because it means to live by trusting yourself and by believing that there is a reason for the path you are taking. Next to the verse I added a cross and a cowboy boot to emphasize the meaning of this verse. I added the cross because, for me, faith is a huge part of my life. The reason why I added the cowboy boot is because I love country music and western styles, so when I walk, I am \u201cwalking\u201d in a cowboy boot. This is why I added the music notes and the title of one of my favorite songs, \u2018Til You Can\u2019t, which is about living your life to the fullest while you can. Then, I added a football and dance shoes to portray my passions. Lastly, I added the Italian flag over my mouth to not only show Italian heritage, but to poke fun at the Italian accent many of my peers have pointed out.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom:20px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openlab.macaulay.cuny.edu\/steam\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/12\/pdf.pdf\">View Project<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom:20px\">\n<strong>How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When creating this work I explored the different roles art plays in my life. I am not an artist, so this project took me out of my comfort zone. However, as I was creating this mask, I realized how much art is really a part of my life. Whether it is with dancing or listening to music, I am constantly surrounded by art. I think that this is something that many people in New York can relate to. There are so many artists in New York who are constantly performing, and there are even more people watching and listening.
