The open steps and plaza combined with the grand structure result in a building that feels both welcoming and authoritative, merging an everyday public environment with a clear expression of architectural prestige. The Met has moved around a few times before settling in its current location. The Met was on the forefront of the battle on ethics of donor-driven naming as seen from the \u201cPrimitive Art\u201d wing. The Met is still expanding and is opening a new wing in 2027 to reimagine the modern and contemporary art spaces within the museum\u2019s existing footprint. There will also be a roof garden connecting the museum to the city and Central Park. The Met is not just a space to view art, it is a place of connection for New Yorkers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom:20px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openlab.macaulay.cuny.edu\/steam\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/22\/2025\/12\/The-Mets-affect-on-New-Yorkers.pdf\">View Project<\/a><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom:20px\">\n<strong>How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By researching The Met we were able to see how the museum developed over time and it\u2019s affect on New Yorker\u2019s. By visiting we were able to see the centrality of the building in the lives of New Yorker\u2019s.
