Each person in our group chose a different part of the park and created a postcard using images, video, and short writing. Together, the postcards show how Central Park is more than just a pretty place it’s a space where people move, gather, and create memories every single day.

We used ideas from Colson Whitehead’s The Colossus of New York to guide us. Whitehead talks about how everyone builds their own version of the city based on the paths they take and the moments they experience. That really matched what we noticed while working on this project: even though we were all in the same park, we each saw something different. Some of us focused on architecture, some on crowds, some on quiet corners and each viewpoint showed a different “private” New York.

View Project

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?

Working on this project helped us see how art is already part of everyday life in New York. By looking closely at Central Park, we realized that the city’s spaces, buildings, sounds, and people all act like forms of art that shape how New Yorkers live and move. The project showed us that art isn’t just in museums, it’s in the places people gather, the stories they create, and the memories they build together. It helped us understand that art plays a big role in how communities form and how the city is experienced.

Group Members: Saad Nagi, Matthew Groysman, Francesco Borgognone, Ismaeel El-Shafei, Aevann David Our project is a collection of five postcards about Central Park and what we think the…

[1029,1044,40,67
1254,168,518
post-3296","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-1029","category-cunningham-nijah","category-hunter","category-seminar-1-the-arts-in-nyc","tag-steam-festival","tag-art","tag-hunter
["GET
