Cheating, forgery, plagiarism and collusion in dishonest acts undermine the college&#8217;s educational mission and the students&#8217; personal and intellectual growth. Baruch students are expected to bear individual responsibility for their work, to learn the rules and definitions that underlie the practice of academic integrity, and to uphold its ideals. Ignorance of the rules is not an acceptable excuse for disobeying them. Any student who attempts to compromise or devalue the academic process will be sanctioned.\u201dSee <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.baruch.cuny.edu\/academic\/academic_honesty.html\">http:\/\/www.baruch.cuny.edu\/academic\/academic_honesty.html<\/a><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cheating and plagiarism<\/strong> are serious offenses. Academic sanctions in this class will range from an F on the assignment in question to an F in this course. Students suspected of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Office of the Dean of Students, the Baruch Honors Program, and MHC Deans. This report becomes part of your permanent file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cheating<\/strong> is the attempted or unauthorized use of persons, materials, information, notes, study aids, devices, using AI or ChatGPT sources, or communication during an academic exercise. Examples include but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Copying from another student or allowing another to copy your work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unauthorized collaboration on an assignment or examination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taking an examination or completing an assignment for another student<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Asking or allowing another student or person to do an assignment or take an examination for you<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submitting substantial portions of the same paper to two classes without consulting the second instructor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allowing others to research and write assigned papers including the use of commercial term paper services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Plagiarism<\/strong> is the act of using AI tools, ChatGPT for writing or research or presenting another person&#8217;s ideas, research or writing as your own:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Copying another person&#8217;s actual words without the use of quotation marks and footnotes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presenting another person&#8217;s ideas or theories in your own words without acknowledgment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Using information that is not considered common knowledge without acknowledgment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Failure to acknowledge collaborators on homework assignments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For more on plagiarism, see the online tutorial prepared by the Newman Library faculty: <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.newman.baruch.cuny.edu\/plagiarism\">https:\/\/guides.newman.baruch.cuny.edu\/plagiarism<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>AI Policy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The use of AI resources and platforms is allowed for written and creative works (text, image, data, or other) with certain conditions as agreed upon by all of us. Transparency is important when using AI mediums. You must cite and acknowledge how you used these tools and sources. Ethical practice involves crediting what you accessed and how you used AI content.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Writing:<\/p>\n<p>Drafting an outline; organizing ideas\u2014 to help you focus, structure, or identify a core theme\/argument in your writing<\/p>\n<p>Feedback on revising\u2014a good way to develop critical thinking to engage AI in order to improve your writing style.<\/p>\n<p>Translation of words or phrases\u2014keep in mind translating long passages from another language into English often changes the syntax and ideas you are trying to convey.<\/p>\n<p>Definitions or Information\u2014make sure you fact-check any references or information from an AI source. They are notoriously untrustworthy.<\/p>\n<p>Proofing; grammar related\u2014AI tools (Grammarly\/Quillbot) will often erase your voice when asked to proofread.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Citation:<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the text<\/strong> of your essay, insert a MLA style note (i.e.\u201cDescribe the difference\u201d or ChatGPT) at the end of a sentence or section where you used AI.<\/p>\n<p><strong>At the end<\/strong> of your essay, please cite the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The AI tool you used when paraphrasing, quoting, or incorporating content generated or created \u00a0by AI \u00a0into your own work content (whether text, image, data, or other).<\/li>\n<li>When AI tools are used for editing or translating.<\/li>\n<li>The prompt you used.<\/li>\n<li>The software version and date.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDescribe the difference between impressionist painting and cubism,\u201d prompt. <em>ChatGPT<\/em>, 4 Sept. version, OpenAI, chat.openai.com\/chat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Evaluation criteria: (minor deductions possible)<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:post-content --><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>5 points:\u00a0 Excellent. Evidence of serious attention put towards assignment; the writing demonstrates a focused main idea, organization and analysis; supporting examples cited in the post; on-time submission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>4 points: Very Good. Evidence of attention put towards assignment; the writing demonstrates a main idea; organization and analysis; few supporting examples cited in the post; on-time submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>3 points. Good. Evidence of engagement with the assignment; the writing at times lacks focus on a main idea; organization or analysis; few or no supporting examples cited in the post; on-time submission.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>2 points: Fair. Assignment called for more work or intellectual investment than demonstrated; the writing offers little focus; organization or analysis; no supporting examples cited in the post; on-time submission<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>1 point: Poor.
