
The designs implemented in the incarceration facility is still a topic of debate among community discussion groups, especially concerning the amenities provided in the 300 feet tall building.
However, it has recieved mixed thoughts and some backlash from residents and restaurants. While all agreed that everyone deserved to live in humane conditions, critics like Jessica worry that the proposed spaces seemed more like a luxury hotel than a jail meant to punish and reform criminals.

Integration with the Community
As a further initiative to increase traffic in Manhattan’s Chinatown, as well as in response to the closure of Rikers Island in 2027, the preliminary plans offer retail and community spaces within the jail complex that serve as an incentive for community inclusion.
