Our study examines the perspectives of Chinatown residents, workers, business owners, and community members regarding the proposed mega-prison in Chinatown. Our research question is: To what extent do government projects, like the Mega Jail in Chinatown, affect local communities?
RESEARCH APPROACH
Qualitative Research: In-depth interviews were conducted to understand personal experiences, opinions, and concerns.
RESEARCH SITE
Chinatown, Manhattan, NY: Interviews were conducted in local businesses, community spaces, and public areas within Chinatown.
DATA COLLECTION METHOD
Semi-Structured Interviews: Open-ended questions allowed the participants to freely express their thoughts and share their experiences/personal stories.
PARTICIPANTS
15+ participants: A variety of Chinatown residents, business owners, workers, students, and community/legal advocates.
PURPOSE
To capture the perspectives of community members and better understand how the proposed mega prison may affect the safety, economy, culture, and future of Chinatown.
