John MuccinoParticipantAI headsets as a “coaching tool” for Burger King
So it will provide recipes to employees, alert when inventory is low, when a customer reports a messy bathroom, ALL of which are tasks for which AI seems like complete overkill, but it will ALSO be listening to every word an employee might say looking for indicators of “friendliness” like “thank you” and “welcome.” I know Zuckerberg said 15 years ago that privacy was no longer part of the social contract, but fast food management listening to every word I say while on the clock doesn’t sit right with me. Customer service phone lines are a different thing, not at a food service drive thru. Doesn’t this seem like overkill?

John MuccinoParticipant“…A recent study by Consumer Reports and The Groundwork Collaborative found that Instacart’s AI-enabled pricing schemes are inflating grocery bills by as much as 23%. In January 2025, the Federal Trade Commission released a report detailing how companies use personal data, such as location and browser history, to set individualized prices…”
WTF, I had no idea this was a thing until today. AI algorithms are being used to figure out how much you would be willing to pay for even BASIC necessities (food/diapers), and charge you the maximum, while others pay less. At least in NY companies now have to disclose “individualized pricing” but this Assembly Member is hoping to ban it altogether.

SarahA27ParticipantI won’t claim I am 100% sure every calculation in this resource is correct, but I think it’s worth skimming through to get a more thorough understanding of the complexities behind AI’s environmental impact:

Am I wrong in thinking that we are creating a generation of people who have no awareness of where they at any given moment and cannot navigate their surroundings without being given explicit instructions by Google which will now implement AI into its routes and recommendations? Do we really need this? Is there any value in getting lost or roaming off the map anymore and building up a good sense of orientation and navigation in your own mind?
Here’s a study from 2020 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-62877-0 suggesting that over-reliance on GPS actually leads to a steep decline in the spatial memory capacity of the hippocampus.

I feel compelled to attend the public hearing /teleconference in April. I think we all should consider going and being a part of this conversation because it doesn’t really sound like there’s much of a plan here and hopefully the people who are actually proposing this are aware of some of the research we’ve become familiar with, because we’ve seen that effective integration of this technology into education is not fully understood and done in sloppy ways, so the idea of an entire high school in NYC suddenly focused on AI gives me pause.
Here are the documents related to the proposal
