Hi everyone! Welcome to CALI-MHC. Please post a little about yourself: your campus, major, year, and what you hope to get out of this group. Share the last book you read and any hobbies you enjoy, too!

Hi everyone! My name is Brianna (she/her/hers). I’m a freshman at Hunter College, majoring in political science and interested in philosophy and public policy. I’m eager to learn how we can advocate for stronger, ethical AI policies that protect both our privacy and environment. The most recent book I read was I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman. In my free time, I enjoy journaling, bicycling, and listening to all kinds of music. Looking forward to meeting you all soon!

Hi! My name is John Muccino and I am currently an Engineering Science major at BMCC in my sophomore year. This Fall I will matriculate to CCNY to complete a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. I’m so excited to be a part of this group and to process some of my really strong feelings regarding AI and hopefully contribute something of real value to the broader CALI initiative. I’m looking forward to some really informative and eye-opening readings, and to having spirited discussions with you all while we grapple with difficult topics and possible futures that are hard for us to imagine.

Last book I read was Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea by Charles Seife, but I’m currently getting my mind blown by Delirious New York by Rem Koolhaas, and The Science of Art by Martin Kemp.

I love crosswords, wandering, architecture, poetry, piano, pizza, drawing, reading, mathematics, collages, making stuff AND getting rid of stuff, and trying new and scary things.

Can’t wait to meet you all 🙂

    Hello everybody!

My name is Giovanny Klyd Exilus, and I go by my middle name Klyd. I am a Sophomore at John Jay College currently pursuing a dual degree in Political Science and Economics. I have a lot of interests in the in the intersection of law and economics. A fun fact about me is that I only learned how to swim last semester and it has been one of my favorite activities since. The last book I read was The Wolves of K Street by the Mullins brothers (Luke &  Brody). It’s been a very interesting as it talked about corporate  lobbying.

As for this group, I truly hope I can find a group 0f people to ponder about my ideas regarding AI. I have strong feelings about AI and what it can do for/against us. My friends are getting tired of me and my rotations regarding AI, the work week, and Marx. The burden is now on you guys, haha! Looking forward to meeting you all.

Hi all, I’m Ayesha. I study CS at City College and am currently in my sophomore year. I’m really excited about this program because I think it will help me build a more nuanced, action-biased perspective on GenAI in educational spaces and its impact on learning in general.

I recently read Karen Hao’s Empire of AI, which was published just last year, and would highly recommend it because it’s so relevant to what we’ll be exploring in CALI. I wrapped up Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel yesterday and am resuming Shusanta Zuboff’s Surveillance Capitalism today while I wait to pick up another book I requested from the library. Surprise, I love reading :).

I also enjoy biking and crochet (knitting is growing on me too, shoutout to Dr. Brundage). I’m also obsessed with Gongcha’s Earl Gray Milk Tea (just writing about it makes me want one), but try not to have it too often to regulate the dopamine hit it gives me. Nice to meet ya’ll. Looking forward to having insightful and interesting conversations and creating a plan for promoting constructive AI use at CUNY together.

Hi everyone! I’m Sara, a sophomore majoring in Computer Science at QC. I’m really excited to be in this program to discuss and critically learn about AI in a world that is rapidly adopting it in so many different ways. I think it’s vital to question and understand the implications of AI, since it’s shaping decisions that affect all of us, whether we realize it or not. I hope to gain new perspectives that go beyond just the technical side and have real conversations about its impact.

I’m currently reading 1984 by George Orwell, and it brings up many topics to think about. I love reading, especially dystopian books, and I’ve swum competitively for nine years so swimming is another big part of my life. I also like math, going on walks, and biking around the city. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi everyone! I’m Lulu, a junior majoring in Advertising and Marketing Communications and minoring in New Media Arts at Baruch. My original interest in this program stems from the ethical implications of AI and its rapid growth. I’m excited to discuss a wide range of questions about AI’s applications in different fields and maybe dive deeper into its impact on the art world.

The last book I read was The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson. I definitely recommend it if you feel stuck or any type of dissatisfaction in your life.

In my free time, I love trying new foods, playing video games, and making mixed media art. I’m looking forward to our next meeting!

Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Ahmed. I’m a junior at CSI majoring in English Education with a concentration in Writing. I’m excited about joining this group because I’m really interested in hearing what people from other disciplines are thinking about AI. I’ve gotten plenty of perspectives from my fellow writing majors and coworkers, but I’d love to hear what students majoring in STEM or Poli-Sci are thinking in regards to how AI is impacting their respective fields. I’m currently reading Jane Eyre for one of my classes about coming of age narratives. I am ashamed to say it but I have not had the spare time to read for fun (even as an English major); HOWEVER, I have finally purchased Wuthering Heights and I am motivating myself to read it to see what the hype is about. My latest hobby has been scrapbooking.
