Spotted lanternflies are an invasive species that are associated with host plants such as the Tree of Heaven. Their life cycle consists of multiple stages involving different colors and features. Their population has grown over the past few years but dropped in 2024 which could indicate predators starting to realize the insects are food as well as people spreading the word about killing spotted lanternflies. Regarding agriculture, these insects affect the wine industry negatively by diminishing grape quality so it’s very important for people to be aware of certain control tips. Stomping on spotted lanternflies, destroying their eggs, removing host plants, and monitoring plant life are all beneficial methods. In conclusion, spotted lanternflies are still a threat to New York’s agriculture therefore continued management of their population is essential.
