My Introduction

Hey everyone! My name is Abigail, but most people call me Abi. I’m super stoked to be starting my first year as a Journalism major at Baruch and I can’t wait to get to know you all more.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I love this city and its diverse people, cultures, and cuisine. A few things I like to do for fun is going on walks, photography, and playing instruments. I play piano and guitar. I also enjoy reading and writing. I’m not great at math or science, so choosing my major was a process of elimination. I want to pursue a field of study that is challenging, yet still enables me to embrace the passion and skills I already have. There’s always more to learn and ways to strengthen these skills. What I love about Journalism is storytelling. I want to be a listener and bring stories that are often overlooked to light.

In a week I’ll spend most of my time at school now that we’ve started the semester, but I also go to church a lot. I’m there on Tuesday evenings for prayer night, Fridays for young adult group, and Sundays for church service. Jesus is a huge part of my life, in fact I’d say He’s the center of my life itself. I didn’t grow up in any religion, but in 2020, I became more curious about God and later decided that I believed in the Gospel. That decision changed my life. It was a decision that no one could make for me. I took the first step, and since then, God has allowed me to do things I never thought I’d be able to do!

I also enjoy spending time with my family. My parents split when I was 5, but I still get to spend time with both sides. Me and my mom live in Brooklyn whereas my dad lives in Queens. Both the environments and my parents are very different, but I love it. I have two younger brothers named Liam and Dani, and they are the smartest kids I know. I see them on weekends when I’m free. With my family we love to go out and eat, travel to different parts of the city or go upstate, and have meaningful conversations.

I think that’s all that comes to mind about me. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of Macaulay at Baruch. I’ve already met such unique and amazing people here. I look forward to spending the rest of the semester with you guys!

Here’s a picture of my cat named Cuddles when she was just a little baby! This photo was taken in 2023.
This is a song I’ve been loving lately. I have many RIDERS songs added to my playlist!

Introduction – Intisa

Hi everyone! My name is Intisa (in-tee-suh). I’m from Hewlett, Long Island, and I commute to school. It takes me about 1 hour and 10 minutes to get to school, so it’s not that bad. I’m currently working at a law office right now, and hope I can work more days than just Friday next semester! I was born in Manhattan and then moved to Long Island when I was about 3, so I’m excited to go back to the city as part of my college life. I’m majoring in accounting and then going to law school in hopes of pursuing corporate law.

I am the eldest in my family (I have a 12 year old brother). My family is originally from Bangladesh, and my culture is an important part of who I am. I can speak English, Spanish, Bengali, can read Arabic, and I’m working on learning more Russian from my friends.

I love spending time with my friends, hanging out, trying new places, and more. I’m also a really big family person and love spending time with all my relatives. I have a huge family (my grandmother is one of 17 siblings).

I have a shopping addiction (you can never have enough clothes!) but also just a bad spending habit in general. I love to read and write and if you can’t tell, I’m a big english/history girl. I absolutely need iced coffee everyday, otherwise my head starts hurting..

I also love to travel. Some of my favorite countries I’ve visited were Switzerland, Denmark, and Italy, but my altimeter favorite has to be Spain. I visited many cities in Spain (my favorite was probably Sevilla, Granada, and Madrid) and overall had the best time because it was a solo trip with just me and cousins. I can’t wait to study abroad, and I think London is at the top of my list for it.

I also love to accessorize and I’m a big jewelry person, you’ll never ever catch me wearing silver jewelry. I’ve been meaning to get my nose pierced but right now I’m a bit too chicken and scared of the pain.. but hopefully that’ll change soon! I also want to get my second pricing in my ears but again, too scared at the moment. Also love a nice pair of high heels!! (I don’t think ever ever owned flats and I certainly don’t plan too). Also I cannot leave the house without at least mascara, so if you ever see me without it, somethings seriously wrong! (I swear by the Loreal telescopic waterproof mascara!!)

Additionally, I love listening to music. Some of my favorites are Frank Ocean, The Neighbourhood (I can’t wait to go to their concert in November!!!!), and more recently, Malcolm Todd.

This is my cat Ginny!

This is a song that I love listening to recently.

My Introduction

Hello! Nice to meet you, my name is Angel Mai.

I am an accounting major looking forward to attending Baruch College. As many of us still are, I am still figuring out which paths to walk towards among the endless choices as the future is uncertain. Being an accountant was not my first choice, but it may be my last.

I have lived in New York City for my whole life and have not had the chance to travel to another country. If I were to travel, Switzerland is one of the countries on my bucket list, the main reason is that the scenery is, in every way, breathtakingly beautiful. Another country that I would most definitely without a doubt visit is China considering that my background is grounded in China and being Chinese American. It would be life changing to travel to my family’s home country and learn about the place where my parents grew up.

My hobbies include listening to music, playing badminton, playing volleyball, and styling outfits. I am currently on the hunt for new outfits, hoping to update my closet to fit my preferred style. I enjoy dedicating leisure time drifting away from reality through movies, binge-watching dramas, and reading good books—I especially adore cozy fantasy novels full of whimsy, magic, and adventure. The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis will always have my heart because the author’s writing style and storytelling are captivating.

Ever since I graduated from high school, these past two months of summer has been a constant cycle of binge-watching movies as indulging in this form of art is very much a luxury, something in which the high school version of me did not have due to lack of time. On the top of my head, the movies that I have watched this summer include WickedWicked: For GoodThe Devil Wears Prada 1The Devil Wears Prada 2Catch Me If You Can, The Truman ShowBackroomsSpider-Man: No Way HomeSpider-Man: Into the Spider-VerseSpider-Man: Across the Spider-VerseBarbieLa La LandEscape from the 21st Century, etc. Well, you have a general idea of my summer obsession. There is a particular movie that evoked much excitement, which I have not had the chance to see yet, and I’m hoping to get to see soon, which we all know was released during a summer in July 2026 and involves a certain spider.

Additionally, the Chinese movie 从21世纪安全撤离 or Escape From the 21st Century released on July 18, 2024, gets an honorable mention from me for its abstract visual representation of comedic situations through bursts of unusual, chaotic, and disorienting colors. I love the movie for its creative style.

As I have mentioned, I like listening to music. Here is a song to dive into the blue ocean’s mood:

Song by Path to Nowhere ‧ 2024

If you have any recommendations for movies, songs, or books, I would love to hear them!

My life is more than these five hundred words.

My introduction

Hi everyone!! My name is Elyssa Bari and I am from Long Island, but I am very happy and lucky to be living with some of my friends downtown this year. Even though the commute would not have been that bad im happy to live in the city because even though i dont live so far i never really found myself coming to the city so much. Im excited to go see a broadway show with friends, go bowling by chelsea piers, or go ice skating in bryant park in the winter. Im currently a history major and even though i do find it interesting I dont really see what i can do with that in the future so im planning on possibly changing it to marketing or something else if i find something that speaks to me. I dont really have many hobbies, but i enjoy listening to music and shopping. I think i enjoy shopping too much and i currently have way too many clothes in my closet so that has got to stop. I enjoy going on long walks and recently i have really been enjoying walking to and from school each day. i find its a good way to clear my head and i enjoy seeing different parts of the city that i wouldnt normally see if i took the subway. I am the youngest child and only girl in my family because i have 2 older brothers. people ask me if its annoying that i dont have sisters but if im being honest i never really cared to have a sister. my mom and i are basically sisters because we like almost all of the same things and also have the same shopping addiction (i think i got it from her). I recently have really been enjoying making yogurt bowls in the morning. my classic is greek yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, granola, and some honey on top. sometimes ill maybe do some frozen fruit or a banana, but if im being honest im not the biggest fan of bananas. my favoirte show is probably suits or gilmore girls. they are both really different but both have a special place in my heart. gilmore girls is my classic comfort show and i always watch it in the beginning of fall. Suits i just like becuase i find the whole concept cool and entertaining. Ok, thats all i can think of, i dont really know how to talk about myself for this long but i hope you guys enjoyed!!

My Introduction

Hi guys! My name is Hannah and I’m from Long Island. I’m majoring in International Business and I am currently working on launching my own CPG food business! I love cooking, working out, spending time with friends and family, and going on hikes. I love traveling, but have not been able to travel for a long time due to health issues. However, I am hoping to study abroad and travel the world when I can. I speak English and Spanish, and I’m currently learning Italian and German. Learning new languages is a passion of mine, and I hope to use this when doing international business. I love animals and have a rescue dog named Poseidon whom I love very much. I always miss him when I’m not around him, so I think that will be one of the most difficult things about college for me. Despite pursuing business, I am also very passionate about politics, especially with everything going on in our country right now, which I find to be quite unfortunate. I hope to get more involved by volunteering, voting in the upcoming midterm elections, and joining civic groups. My background is honestly a massive European melting pot, but I was mostly raised with Italian and Eastern European customs/traditions. Another thing about me is I love cinema, and my favorite genre of movies is horror, specifically psychological horror. I am always amazed at how some movies and books are written and put together so perfectly. Additionally, I love watching true crime, although I don’t like how many documentaries or movies are too focused on the criminal rather than honoring the victims. Anyways, that was a bit about me, and I can’t wait to learn more about you guys. Thank you for reading!

My introduction

Hello everyone,

My name is Queena and I’m from Staten Island. To me, Staten Island is an extremely boring area to live in because there’s no where to hang out with your friends besides the mall and going out to eat. I’m majoring in Accounting because I want a safe career route that also has many pathways for me to choose from. There was one time where I wanted to major in psychology but later on during high school, I realized that I’m not interested in psychology as much as I thought I was. When I was younger, I lived in China for 5 years and although I don’t remember much, I do remember the moments where my grand parents brought me my favorite snack, jelly straws. Jelly straws used to be my favorite snack when I was younger so every time that my grand parents would buy me it, I would get so excited and eat the entire box. I’ve grown up to be such a different version of myself now and many things such as my hobbies, favorite snack, food, and activity have been changed. I love to go on walks with my dog and exercise. Additionally, I also really like to stay up late and doom scroll which is a bad habit that I need to fix. As of right now, my favorite snacks are chocolates or any international snacks and my favorite food is probably sushi. I’m still adjusting to college and exploring the city because before | started college, I’ve honestly never really been to the city a lot. Another fun fact about me is that I have a really big shopping addiction and some how I really like working as well. I’m currently working in a restaurant and you make so much in restaurants so l recommend everyone getting a restaurant job even though it might be very challenging to some people at first. Never give up!! During my years at high school, I loved playing volleyball and I also ran on my schools cross country team in which I set a school record in. I also made a club for my school which was something that I never thought I was capable of. I encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zone and try something new at least once. You never know if that one action will change you as a person for the better. Everyone only lives once so it’s always good to try everything out and really get to know yourself.

Renuka’s Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is Renuka Somwaru. I’m currently majoring in accounting, and if you ask why, I’d tell you I’m really just going with the flow. I initially had a passion for psychology but then somehow, I got more business focused. Well, I would say that I’m a person who really can’t make up their mind on things. Yeah, well, I did on the accounting part, but who knows, sometimes a different path may appeal more, but honestly, I’m just willing to try new things, I’m willing to be more exposed to things I’m not as exposed to as yet. Like going to the city myself, I’m now adjusting to it since I wasn’t really allowed to because my parents are a bit paranoid. But here I am trying to embrace that freedom that I’ve gotten. I was born and raised for almost my entire life in Guyana. I’m of Indian descent and in the Caribbean, I would associate myself as an Indo-Guyanese. Fun fact: a lot of Caribbean countries don’t want to claim us Guyanese as part of the Caribbean because we’re the only one out of all of them, that’s in South America, but we literally have the CARICOM Headquarters located in Guyana. Anyways, Guyana is really diverse and biodiverse. It’s a beautiful place. It has one of the world’s largest untouched rainforests, and it even has the world largest single drop waterfall, the Kaieteur Falls. We Indo-Guyanese have art rooted deep in our soul, we appreciate the colors of Holi, we sing and dance to the music of tassa drums, we come together as a community and embrace our celebrations. It’s amazing. As you can probably tell already, I’m a very cultural person. In terms of hobbies, other than doomscrolling and being distracted easily, I don’t have a particularly healthy one. But as I mentioned before though, I’m always down to try new things, even if it’s out of my comfort zone. I used to enjoy playing volleyball back in high school, I even had the chance to join the team, but I didn’t because I underestimated myself and I kind of regretted missing out on the opportunity. But then I realized I had nothing to lose, so what if I don’t know? I could learn. That’s why this is a lesson to me and to others, to make the most of it. It’s better to know that you attempt something instead of regretting not attempting it at all. It’s fine if you don’t think you can do it, everyone literally starts somewhere. Thanks for reading and it’s a pleasure to meet you guys!

Introduction about Myself

Hi everyone!!

My name is Camila Morocho. To give some background information about myself, as I have mentioned before in class, I was born in Ecuador, but for the majority of my life, I have lived in Queens. Whenever we get the chance, my family and I travel there. I would have to say that one of my favourite times to visit is in February since there is a type of festivity called Carnaval, in which everyone throws buckets of water or sprays water with water guns, as well as enjoying exquisite peach and fig desserts. It’s super fun (trust).

I only have one sibling, and she is the oldest. I have a Russian Blue cat; however, my first pets growing up were always dogs until we adopted Mishi (that is my cat’s name, by the way). Of all cuisines, one of my favorites is Thai. I am always excited and open to trying new cuisines. That is one of the reasons I love NY, as you have several cultures at your disposal to explore without the need to travel that far. Now with this class, I am excited that we have different locations to visit and analyze their meaning and importance.

Regarding my major, I am still trying to figure that out, but for the moment, it is Marketing. If it were to end up being Marketing, I would prefer to go towards International Marketing, as I love to travel. Some of my interests are hiking, although I don’t do it as often as I would like. Recently, I have been interested in skateboarding, and hopefully, I will soon master at least some tricks. Apart from these things, I also like to draw and read. I used to enjoy painting as well, but I would always choose complicated and very detailed references and would quickly lose interest halfway through, so I have a few paintings that are unfinished, a bad habit I’m trying to improve on. The authors I have been reading recently are mainly Isabel Allende and Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Nonetheless, I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better and getting the most out of this class.

I have attached below a picture of my cat and the song I have been currently fixated on.

Kadeza Ahmed – Introduction

Hello everyone! Good morning or afternoon (or whatever time you are reading this), my name is Kadeza Ahmed and it is an honor to be apart of this wonderful class with you all. I am an Accounting major, but truth be told, I am unsure if I will be sticking with it. I might switch to Marketing since I like to interact and connect with new people. I truly enjoy getting to know new people and meeting people from different backgrounds and upbringing, as well as creating a sense of community. Anyways, I honestly don’t know how to start with this post, but a few things about me is that I love cats (I have four cats and I actually have three generations of them!), I enjoy good company, and I love to explore different parts of New York City whenever opportunities prevail. Although I do enjoy doomscrolling (as mentioned in class), I also like to draw/sketch and I read here and there whenever I find an interesting book (Mystery/Horror/Romance)– I would consider myself more of a History/English person than a Math/Science one, which is ironic because I’m at Baruch… I have always been interested in learning more about the arts aspect of New York City, and have not always gotten the time to do so (as it has not been my main focus honestly up until getting into Macaulay), so I am eager to venture out and explore different kinds of arts in the city we call home, as well as collaborate with peers to discovering a variety of art forms. I have visited some art institutions exposing me to the different kinds of arts/cultures in New York City such as MOMA PS1 in Long Island City, and Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) nearby Canal street. I truly love to learn more about art expressions/cultures different than mine. I come from a Bengali-American household and am the youngest of three. I will be a first-gen graduate student too! I like to keep myself active by going on brisk walks and just moving around (going to the gym is a work in progress), and I actually used to play softball in highschool as well. I really do not know what to expect for these next four years, but I hope to make meaningful connections and graduate with useful, and wise knowledge, to carry on for the rest of my life. Nonetheless, this is an introduction of who I am, and I look forward to having this class! Attached below is an image of me with my cats, and the sound is my favorite song. See you guys soon!
