Art is normally seen as a luxury and something only the wealthy can afford. Accessible art allows everyone from all wealth classes to experience the magic that is art.
In this project we explored the uses of the lotus plant, or Nelumbo nucifera. From pharmaceuticals that treat cancer and HIV to growing neurons and bone cells in the stems and roots, this one plant has benefits that could revolutionize modern medicine and biology.
Honk. Beep. Yell. As New Yorkers, we’ve gotten used to these sounds, but do birds feel the same way? This project assesses whether urban noise pollution affects bird song duration.
Urban green spaces play a pivotal role in the fostering biodiversity of all kinds of organisms, such as plants and fungi. Our research aims to identify if there is a correlation between high fungal diversity and lower plant diversity in parks within NYC?
Do daily weather factors such as average temperature and humidity, relate to presence of lanternflies in NYC? If there is a relationship, or if there is not, what does this tell us about future work to be done in studying the relationship between weather and lanternflies.
This past year the forest fires in Canada and the extreme rain in September got us all thinking about air pollution and rainfall. Particles in the air form nuclei for clouds to condense around. In light of this connection, this is an investigation into the correlation between air pollution and rainfall.
We study the lichen biodiversity in Central & Prospect Park and how they are related to the air quality of both parks.
Our exhibit walks you through each stage a couple experiences during a relationship. In the end, you are able to decide what happens in the relationship!
