This project is an exploration of the Arts in NYC as told through celebration. As New Yorkers in a city with immense diversity, celebrating and taking pride in ethnic or neighborhood culture is what brings residents together. Food, clothing, dance, and more are all forms of art, and are often combined during festivals or parades. This presentation highlights two unique celebrations from each borough, and dives into what each one brings to the table and how it is special to the community it represents. Many of these festivals are somewhat lesser-known, so it is also an opportunity for viewers of this project to learn about other cultures and potentially even attend one of these events when it occurs next. We hope you enjoy the presentation!
Completing this project allowed our group to explore the value that celebrating local community and ethnic background holds for New Yorkers from all five boroughs. Traditional food, music, clothing, etc. are sometimes taken for granted if you are used to them, but are each their own form of art and prove that art is almost always incorporated in our lives in some way or another.
