Please ask for an extension 24 hours before the due date of any assignment.

Assignments are due by 9am on the due date. Comments on 2 other posts are due by 9pm on the due date. You will not receive credit if you post or comment during class time.

Each Writing Response (400-500 words) with timely comments (50-75 words) is worth up to 5 points. Comments should engage with the subject of the post by acknowledging the author’s perceptions, offering to add to the post, bring in a different perspective, or ask a question. Strive for thoughtful responses that converse with the post/author by developing the argument or building on the discussion. You are permitted to miss a set of comments. We all forget. Don’t make it a habit or you’ll begin to incur a point deduction on any responses that are missing comments.

Evaluation criteria: 5 points: Excellent

  • Title/Author cited in the post (.5)
  • Writing demonstrates a focused main idea, organization and analysis (2)
  • Supporting examples cited/quoted in the post to support argument (1)
  • Post is proof read for spelling and grammar (1)
  • On-time submission (.5 per day)
  • 0 points: Assignment is more than 2 days late or not submitted.

Creative Posts: Other online assignments engage in reflective or creative activities. These assignments vary in length.  Some assignments may require more or less time investment, so please plan ahead. You will receive full credit for completing your posts and comments on time. 1 point deduction per day for late posts or comments.

Introduction Post Due September 2

Compose an introduction about yourself–what do you want the rest of us to know about your background or interests. Include at least one image as well as sound or video. Use the paper clip looking icon to embed links to your post. You don’t have to comment on these posts, but it sure is nice if you say hello back to one of your peer colleagues.

How do you define it?  Please explain your definition in detail with a specific example from the reading to support it.  In your response, refer to the reading by quoting  a statement, section, or theme that strikes you in a way you can build on it or depart from it (agree or disagree) in answering the question.
  2. Refer to the reading by quoting a statement, section, or theme and discuss an intangible or tangible aspect of cultural heritage within your own family. Be sure to explain what makes it tangible or intangible. How is it preserved and passed down?
