Birria-Landia is a spot known, loved, and popularized in recent years by many dedicated TikTokers for serving as “New York’s best Birria Tacos.” The business was started by the Moreno brothers, Jesus and Jose, who have a passion for sharing “the authentic Tijuana tradition” birria de res tacos.1 After visiting the place, I observed how their supportive Hispanic and Black customer base is loyal to the business and keeps Birria-Landia busy even when other Mexican food trucks are nearby. With their menu of Birria Tacos, Consomé/Birria broth, Mulitas— corn tortilla stuffed with chopped Birria, onions, cilantro, sauce melted mozzarella and grated cheese— and Tostadas—slow toasted and grilled mozzarella chopped Birria, onion, cilantro, sauce and grated cheese—the brothers demonstrate their Mexican culinary expertise.2 The efficient workers of Birria-Landia always seem to be busy as people continually stop by for their famous tacos!
Since rolling onto the streets, Birria-Landia has sparked a birria renaissance, redefining what it means to serve Mexican tradition from a truck!
