The Poetry of New York City

Read: Frank O’Hara’s Lunch Poems (1964)

Read O’Hara’s poems. Choose one that you can relate to or has a rhythm that you respond to. Be prepared to share it in class. You can find a copy of Lunch Poems at any library.

Read: Makin’s, Colorado poems.

Note Makin’s economy of words. Be prepared to discuss in class your reaction to his work. Create a poem that addresses an aspect of New York City to share with the class following Makin’s example. Upload your poem to OpenLab. Include an image that you have taken. Do not pull one from the internet.
