In this project, I document my experience learning about upcycling and incorporating it into my life in a slideshow. I learned that beginner upcycling projects are usually consist of making smaller accessories like scrunchies, which was something I actually needed. I decided to hand sew a scrunchie out of fabric from a shirt that I used to wear a lot, but now it was stretched with many holes. I want to show people that there are still uses to clothing that you may not wear or is damaged.

How did completing your project help you explore the role of arts in the lives of New Yorkers and their communities?

NYC is known as a fashion capital of the world, but we also have an issue of fashion waste. Learning about upcycling helped me learn about a way I can contribute to fixing this issue. Upcycling is resourceful and creative, but can also be helpful to our planet. Seeing how others incorporate this practice into their lives, inspired me to do so as well.
