This study examines the relationship between changes in air quality and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality across U.S. states and regions from 2010 to 2020. Using public data regarding CVD mortality from the NVSS (National Vital Statistics System) and Air Quality Index (AQI) data from the EPA, we analyzed regional trends, state-level correlation between AQI and mortality, and the change in time from 2010 to 2020. While air quality and CVD mortality are correlated in most parts of the U.S. (with the West being an outlier) the correlation varies in strength geographically both on the state level and regionally which demonstrates the impact of other factors on CVD mortality.
