This work is called Personal Growth and Technology. What I have presented here is a prototype that is related to my idea of sharing vision media promoting personal growth journey’s where proper cell phone / technology use is involved. This is a collection of some vision boards by students where they pictured the personal interests that they could pursue instead of being on the phone. I wanted to include other student input in vision boards and potentially videos because I felt that more voices could generate a greater influence than one. The desired impact is to encourage high school students to pursue the activities that they enjoy and that will improve their character qualities. Specifically, use pursue their interests while using their phones properly or while not using them. My personal experience with technology use responsibility is striving to moderately use devices and use them as a learning tool. I used devices in this manner after realizing that using them properly allowed me to pursue my personal interests. I felt better about myself and that I was more than someone who used devices excessively. I would like high school students to feel this way about themselves as well and have a deeper sense of who they are. I wanted to expand my reach to generation z students in the Bronx by creating a website and social media content for them to be inspired by. The website may include what students could picture themselves doing and ideas of what desirable qualities to develop. Also, the website may include effective cell phone use, personal growth, the importance of these values for high school students. Lastly it will have a template to encourage students to start picturing their cell phone use and personal growth goals. The social media posts are intended to promote ideas of personal growth and effective cell phone use. The posts may achieve this promotion through having memes, images, recordings and commentary that come from generation z people. Also, possibly have students make their vision media and present to other students in school in a persuasive manner.
Completing this project helped me to understand that art in New York City can evoke a message about a social issue that influences New Yorkers to think deeper. Specifically, it can influence New Yorkers to think differently about the social issue or to consider more about it. I made an art medium that is meant to influence high school Bronx students to see that there is so much in store for them to achieve than excessively using technology. Through the use of images and affirmations, it was a way to potentially motivate students in pursing the personal interests that promote character growth. Thus, this intent of my art piece influencing students to think and feel a certain way allows me to conclude that art can be influential in this manner.
